Throughout the years since it was first launched, Fortnite has evolved, with new mechanics, cosmetics, and customizations to help things feel fresh. Part of these new additions to the base game has involved collaborations with other properties and franchises across multiple media like comic book characters, real-life sports stars, and even other video games. With the most recent collaboration bringing the beloved anime franchise My Hero Academia into the world of Fortnite, it’s worth taking a moment to examine how it stacks up compared to previous crossovers.

Fortnite’s My Hero Academia Crossover

Officially announced towards the end of last year, fans of both My Hero Academia and Fortnite were excited to learn that the two seemingly disparate worlds would be colliding. Rumors that the popular manga and anime series would be making its way into Fortnite at some point were started when players spotted an All Might pickaxe in the background of Chapter 4’s cinematic trailer, and the speculation was finally laid to rest in December 2022 after Epic Games’ reveal. Alongside skins inspired by My Hero Academia, gamers will also be able to use new emotes and other series-specific perks, as well as take part in new activities.

Four Heroes from My Hero Academia debuted in Fortnite last month, with players able to choose skins of series protagonist Deku, their mentor All Might, and classmates Katsuki Bakugo and Ochako Uraraka. Other Fortnite additions in the December update included My Hero Academia quests in Battle Royale and Zero Build modes, the Hero Training Gym island, All Might Supply Drops, and special items like the Deku’s Glove Emoticon.

Previous Fortnite Collaborations

The substantial addition of My Hero Academia-themed content that recently came to Fortnite should help entertain fans of the series and introduce lots of new elements to please fans of Fortnite as well. The sheer number of crossovers that Fortnite has been able to utilize is pretty impressive, but the range of different franchises and IPs involved is almost unheard of. From Marvel to Marshmello and Star Wars to John Wick, the massive variety when it comes to collaborations shows the undeniable clout that Fortnite wields in modern culture, but some collaborations were definitely better than others.

While a few have been fairly superficial, including nothing but a few cosmetics like skins or gliders for players to enjoy as part of the NFL crossover, others have been a little more extensive like the Naruto or Dragon Ball Z collaborations. Luckily for My Hero Academia fans, the most recent collaboration was much more extensive, with mythic items and very on-theme activities with the addition of the Hero Training Gym. My Hero Academia’s world where superpowers are very much a reality fits in perfectly with the chaotic arena of Fortnite, and so it’s good to see Epic Games’ dedication to the show through the variety and depth of new aspects that the crossover has introduced.

Fortnite is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
